Phase-shifting transformers are applied to control the active powerflow in the power grid by regulating the phase angle. These transformers are used in networks where, due to deregulation, intensive powerwheeling takes place. Phase-shifting transformers are available with non-symmetrical direct or indirect regulation and symmetrical direct or indirect regulation.
