The B&P Continuous Kneader (also called Ko-Kneader) is a reciprocating single-screw extruder that is well-suited to handle mixing of shear-sensitive and heat-sensitive compounds. The screw of the continuous kneader reciprocates, with one complete forward and backward stroke movement for every 360° rotation of the screw. Thus, the stroking motion is superimposed uniformly on the rotary motion of the screw. The flights on the screw are interrupted 120° apart and interact with three rows of stationary kneading pins located along the axial length of the barrel wall. Each row of kneading pins is spaced 120° apart from the adjacent row. The interaction between the moving flights and the stationary pins during each stroke causes dispersive and distributive mixing. The unique geometry of the screw flight causes a net forward conveying of the melt.
