The Bio-Cool IV40 controlled rate freezers from SP Scientific are automatically refrigerated 1.5 liter of liquid baths with a temperature of -40°C. The magnetic stirrer and vortex breaker design are used to guarantee isothermal conditions during the whole temperature range.

The device handles heat loads essentially larger than the liquid nitrogen counterparts and without using expandable refrigerant by using a liquid medium. This is suitable with applications such as tissue freezing and freezing of bovine and murine embryos.
