Metsos submerged chain conveyors gather, chill and dry bottom ash. From the boiler, ash descends through a discharge hopper into a chamber filled with water. The progressive-loop, dual-strand submerged chain conveyor then cools and disposes the ash. These conveyors move the ash at about 8 to 12 feet per minute (similar rate as our dry drag conveyors) with up to a 35 degree slope maximum. The angle allows draining of excess water. The submerged chain conveyors are built on rollers permitting easy boiler access to facilitate maintenance.
