lStepper Motors represent synchronous motors with a high number of poles enabling them to be regarded as direct drives. The motors offer advantages including high holding torque and very good positioning capability. The intelligent control of the stator windings in full step or microstep mode enables to directly approach (i.e. without return system) the individual steps or partial steps thus distinguishing between the Stepper Motors from servomotors and proving them as cost-effective alternative.
Stepper Motors with excessive acceleration and fast load cycles are no longer capable to follow the rotary field and “losing steps” and encoder option improves such situations. Stepper motor features maximum torque in the lower speed range and an overriding holding torque at standstill. But in many applications this process makes a holding brake unnecessary. The stepper motor terminals from the Beckhoff I/O system are suitable to can store current curves for any speed or load profile and for optimum adjustment
