The High Density Metric (HDM) connector system is available with signal modules of 72 and 144 contacts.

In order to handle it as a single connector, daughtercard modules are combined on a metal stiffener. For functions such as power, guidance, mounting and coding, specific modules are available. Connectors featuring more than 1,000 circuits are possible but highly unusual.

The power contacts can cope with 15A of current per power blade, and the modules come equipped with internal ground contacts that isolate them from one other, enabling low ground ratios, or sub-nanosecond rise times. The daughtercard can accommodate combinations of both shielded and unshielded modules and they all mate with the same backplane header.
