The patented ARCTIS (Active Road / Runway Condition Temperature of Ice Formation Sensor) sensor is used as a complement to the passive BoPAS or BOSO sensor. The ARCTIS sensor surface is submitted to cooling and heating cycles generated by a Peltier element.
A PT100 temperature sensor placed close to the sensor surface allows to detect the freezing point of an aqueous solution. The freezing point can be given until 15°C below the pavement temperature.
This active technology provides a reliable information about ice forming conditions on road surface independently of the kind of de-icing agent engaged The cycles are used to detect any risk or presence of black ice, frost, ice or freezing snow on the pavement.
The sensor can be supplied with a housing for special applications (airports, etc.).
