Ruhstrat's electrically heated pit furnace features a retort and tumbler drum. It is used for the examination of the coke reactivity and resistance according to ISO/DIS 18894. The pit furnace is designed as a vertical tube furnace. The retort is hung into the furnace and inserted. It then removed by means of the lifting device with a rope winch. A temperature-resistant steel-tube with a diameter of approximately 30 mm is placed at the bottom of the furnace. It is closed at its end part, while a continuously lockable opening is found on its side.
The model features a rated temperature of 1,150 °C. Its heating process is facilitated by heating elements on fiber ceramic modules. The heating chamber's atmosphere is composed of air with no aggressive or corrosive vapors.
