Both natural and synthetic diamonds are used for the manufacture of dressing or grinding tools. Diamond is the hardest known material and it may reach a hardness of up to 10,000 HV. Diamond consists of pure carbon and it is extremely resistant to all inorganic acids, to alkaline substances, and to all organic solvents.
This applies equally to synthetic diamonds. Contrary to natural diamonds, synthetic diamonds are grown to final crystal size and are not crushed to size. For this reason, synthetic diamonds feature predominantly regular and more "blocky" crystal shapes.
