The principle that particles of varying sizes, shapes or specific gravities are able to be separated through the use of an upward flow of air - sometimes referred to as elutriation - is taken advantage of by the AC series Aerodynamic Cyclonic Classifiers.
After being pneumatically conveyed into the classifier, the powder to be classified is collected and transferred into a fluidizing air stream where it is introduced into the lower portion of the classifier. The fine fraction of the powder is carried out of the top of the classifier by the upward flow and into a final collector. The coarse fraction of the powder is then discarded from the bottom of the classifier via an optional airlock device into a sealed container.
